I am delighted to be here today at the Annual Meetings of the Caribbean Development Bank during the 52nd meeting of the Boards of Governors of the Bank.
 I wish to thank my dear brother and colleague, Dr. Hyginus ‘Gene’ Leon, President of the Caribbean Development Bank for inviting me to deliver this lecture. Gene and I go way back, as he was the Country Director of the International Monetary Fund in Nigeria when I was  the Minister of Agriculture. And we worked so well together.

North African conference on labor, entrepreneurship and MSMEs concludes with the "Rabat Declaration"

"The post-Covid-19 world is opening up new avenues and opportunities. All public and private actors have a role to play in making themselves even more accessible to entrepreneurs. This will only be possible if a new impetus is given to entrepreneurship and MSMEs, with a synergy of all programs, public and private, which will have to be scaled up, have greater capacity, and be seamlessly interwoven." This was the conclusion of a regional conference held on 7 and 8 June in Rabat, Morocco, on the future of labor and the role of entrepreneurship and MSMEs.,

Africa and the Caribbean to strengthen cooperation through their regional development banks (speech and video available)

Economic ties between Africa and the Caribbean took a strong upward turn this week as the regions’ premier financial institutions—the African Development Bank and the Caribbean Development Bank—came together to advance their collaboration with one another.
On Tuesday, African Development Bank Group President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina delivered the prestigious 22nd William G. Demas Memorial Lecture at the Caribbean Development Bank’s 52nd Annual Meeting in Providenciales, Turks & Caicos.

Burkina Faso : plus de dix mille nouvelles entreprises enregistrées grâce à un projet soutenu par la Banque africaine de développement

Le Projet d’appui à la transformation de l’économie et la création de l’emploi, mis en œuvre au Burkina Faso, entre 2014 et 2021, a permis d’augmenter l’enregistrement de nouvelles entreprises. Les nouvelles entreprises enregistrées sont passées de 1 021 en 2014 à 13 500 en 2021, grâce notamment à l'appui du projet aux Centres de gestion agréés de Ouagadougou et de Bobo-Dioulasso dans la sensibilisation sur l’importance de la formalisation des entreprises.

Gambia: African Development Bank strengthens health system to eradicate Covid-19 and ward off possible pandemics

Since 2020, the Multi-Country Covid-19 Crisis Response Program has strengthened the health system in Gambia. Significant health infrastructure has been built to contain possible waves of coronavirus infections and deal with potential communicable disease threats that could cause outbreaks in this West African country.
The $14.1 million in funding received for the project was split into two loans of $7.05 million each, one from the African Development Fund, the concessional funding arm of the African Development Bank Group, and the other from the Fragile States Facility.
