India: Madhya Pradesh Energy Efficiency Improvement Investment Program – Tranche 1

The multitranche financing facility was approved to support ongoing medium-term power sector improvement initiatives of the three power distribution companies in Madhya Pradesh. Tranche 1 aimed to (i) install power supply feeders for irrigation pumps and rural residences; (ii) expand high voltage distribution system (HVDS) and aerial bundle conductors; (iii) provide new power connections; (iv) install energy meters for distribution transformers and feeders; (v) prepare distribution asset maps; and (vi) undertake network analysis models to improve power supply to rural households.

People's Republic of China: Jiangxi Fuzhou Urban Integrated Infrastructure Improvement Project

The project was to build a well-designed multimodal transport infrastructure and integrated public transport services. Its target impact was an efficient, inclusive, and sustainable urban transport system in Fuzhou.
This report validates the completion report's assessment of the project. IED overall assessment: Less than successful.

Pakistan: National Trade Corridor Highway Investment Program (Tranche 2)

The program aimed to improve regional network for the movement of goods and people along Pakistan's E35 expressway. Tranche 2 had two targeted outputs which were  the construction and operationalization of a 39.6-kilometer (km) E35 expressway connecting Hassanabdal and Sarai Saleh and improvement of the National Highway Authority’s (NHA) institutional capacity in social safeguards.
This report validates the completion report's assessment of Tranche 2. IED overall assessment: Successful.

Sudan: Bank-funded programme yields a pioneering batch of graduates in the education sector

When the African Development Bank launched a project to enhance institutional and human capacity in Sudan's education sector, Ahmed Mutiagin was a student with ambitions of getting into academia.
That goal has been realised; Mutiagin, 38, is now a proud holder of a PhD in Education, Leadership and Policy from the Bahir Dar University in Ethiopia, and is teaching at Sudan’s Sennar University in the Faculty of Education. He is also the Vice Dean for student affairs there.,

The third Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development ended on Wednesday, with calls to tackle the multiple crises, new and old, facing the African continent.
Egyptian President Abdelfattah El-Sisi launched the proceedings on Tuesday, with a call for a united response to the continent’s ills. He reminded the audience of ministers, development representatives, civil society groups, and others, that Africa was still gripped by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.,
