In a recent interview in New York with Bloomberg TV at the margins of the UN General Assembly and New York Climate Week, EIB President Werner Hoyer discussed the current energy crisis and efforts to develop renewable energy and infrastructure. Questioned by presenters Alix Steel and Guy Johnson on the EIB’s energy lending policy, President Hoyer said, “We need to stay the course on decarbonisation." Decarbonisation, he said, requires a much stronger focus on innovation, development and climate. "Decarbonisation is not a luxury, it’s an imperative if we want to keep our planet alive."

EIB Vice President Christian Kettel Thomsen has praised the recent completion of the Modiano Emporium in Thessaloniki, a long-awaited urban renewal project which was made possible by financing from the EIB. 

Teresa Czerwińska – Vice-President of the European Investment Bank is participating in the 31st Economic Forum in Karpacz, in Lower Silesia (Poland), as a speaker in the opening session and she will be talking about EIB’s support for the green transition and EIB’s involvement in supporting Ukraine and EU countries hosting refugees.

An EIB delegation led by President Werner Hoyer, with the participation of Vice-Presidents Ambroise Fayolle and Thomas Östros, visited Washington DC on 25 and 26 August for high-level meetings with the US Administration, multilateral development institutions and leading think tanks on climate action and the forthcoming COP27 (6-18 November in Egypt), energy transition, Ukraine’s reconstruction and the global economic outlook as a result of the war in Ukraine.

ONGOING EVALUATION. ADB’s Independent Evaluation Department (IED) will undertake an examination of ADB's investment and credit risk management of NSO covering the period 2009–2021. The evaluation will seek to assess the relevance and effectiveness of ADB’s investment and credit risk management policies, processes, tools, systems, and organization.

Launched in 2016, the Young Rural Enterprises Project in the Central West of Madagascar has helped improve agricultural yields. Yields of rice and maize doubled, according to a project progress report released by the African Development Bank on 30 August 2022.

The African Development Bank and the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) featured two innovative mechanisms for scaling up adaptation action and finance during a joint event held on 1 September 2022 on the side lines of the Africa Climate Week in Libreville, Gabon.
