The project’s expected impact was increased energy security. Its envisaged outcome was that customers’ access to a higher share of electricity generated by hydropower. It comprised the rehabilitation of three small hydropower plants (SHPs) in Upolu, construction of three new SHPs in Upolu and Savai’I, and provision of training to the EPC on operation and maintenance (O&M) for up to 2 years after plant commissioning of the SHPs.

The project was designed as a financial intermediary loan to complement the government’s directive by catalyzing domestic capital and providing targeted finance to build capacity for replacing energy efficient brick kilns. The project’s envisaged impact was improved environmental conditions in Bangladesh. The project’s envisaged impact was improved living conditions in urban areas while its envisaged outcome was improved infrastructure and access to service delivery in slum neighborhoods in 20 project cities.
