Lao People’s Democratic Republic: Governance and Capacity Development in Public Sector Management Program (Subprograms 1 and 2)

The Governance and Capacity Development in Public Sector Management Program sought to improve overall public sector capacity and governance framework, strengthen PFM, and undertake public administration reforms with the aim of achieving sustained and inclusive economic growth. Under subprogram 1, the government addressed the foundational reforms necessary to strengthen public sector management as a precursor to improving service delivery. Under subprogram 2, the government was expected to deepen the reforms by focusing on implementation and achieving tangible development targets.

Lao People’s Democratic Republic: Health Sector Governance Program (Subprograms 1 and 2)

The policy-based loan provided budgetary and technical assistance support to address key constraints within the health system and implement the reforms. Its expected impact was a universal health coverage achieved under the Health Sector Reform Strategy by 2025, where objectives for structural reforms were translated into policy actions in the program’s governance areas. The program’s expected outcome was an improved health service delivery particularly for the poor, women, and children.

Donation for Ukraine

As part of the EIB Group support to Ukraine, the EIB Institute will coordinate a humanitarian aid donation of €2.5 million to help the people affected by the war in Ukraine. The donation comes on top of €668 million of financing approved last week as part of the EIB’s Ukraine Solidarity Package.
 

Statement by EIB President Werner Hoyer against violations of basic rights of civilians and attacks against civilian infrastructure in Ukraine

The European Investment Bank strongly condemns the military invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops and the violations of fundamental rights of civilians and public servants, including the recent abduction of democratically elected mayors of Ukrainian towns and the attacks against civilian infrastructure, including children's hospitals and schools, over the last two weeks. 

EIB, Luxembourg and Bangladesh join forces to combat coronavirus and boost country-wide Covid-19 immunization in Bangladesh

The European Investment Bank (EIB), the bank of the European Union and the largest multilateral lender in the world, will provide €250 million to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh via EIB Global to support procurement of safe and effective vaccines and country-wide immunisation against COVID-19. Vaccination efforts will also include Rohingya refugees from Myanmar currently hosted in Bangladesh.

EIB looking to invest in Hydrogen projects

On 8 March 2022, the European Commission announced the REPowerEU Communication that includes doubling of the European Union (EU) hydrogen production target and underlining the need to enhance EU manufacturing capabilities of equipment such as electrolysers. In this context, the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance launched a call for project promoters among its members to present their projects to the EIB.
