African Development Bank appoints Dr. Alex Mubiru as Director General, Cabinet Office

The African Development Bank has appointed Dr. Alex Mubiru as Director General in the Cabinet Office of the Bank Group’s President, with effect from 16 August 2022.
Dr. Mubiru, a Ugandan national, brings close to 25 years of experience to the position, with a proven track record in the various positions he has held at the African Development Bank, and elsewhere.
Mubiru has been Acting Director General in the Cabinet Office of the President since December 2021 and Director of Strategy and Delivery, in the same office.

Côte d’Ivoire: 260 Localities Already Connected to Electricity Through African Development Bank Project

Launched in Côte d’Ivoire in 2019, the Project to Improve Access to Electricity in Rural Areas has already connected 260 localities to the national electric grid. At the conclusion of the works, which is scheduled for the end of 2023, a total of 460 localities will have access to electricity, according to the African Development Bank’s implementation and results report, published on 29 July 2022.

‘Sobering’ African Economic Outlook strikes a chord with US and UK stakeholders

The African Development Bank’s African Economic Outlook report 2022 (AEO) struck a chord with policymakers and other stakeholders during recent seminars in the United States and the United Kingdom.
An African Development Bank Group delegation, led by Acting Chief Economist and Vice President Kevin Urama, was in Washington D.C. 20-29 July, and London 1-2 August, to discuss the AEO, a flagship publication of the Bank, with global market players.

India: Jammu and Kashmir Urban Sector Development Investment Program (Project 3 and Multitranche Financing Facility)

The MFF’s expected impact was sustainable economic growth through the provision of urban infrastructure services and the promotion of urban management improvement in the target towns, and other selected towns with tourism potential in the state.  The two intended outcomes were improved living environment and employment opportunities for the 2.4 million people in the target towns and other participating towns with tourism potential, and improved capacity of participating institutions in managing sector reforms and service delivery. Project 3’s expected impact was aligned with the MFF’s first

Armenia: Human Development Enhancement Program

The program identified education and health sector reforms for ADB support through a policy-based loan. The program addressed four broad areas. The first two were reducing poverty and addressing inequalities, as well as accelerating gender equality and women’s empowerment through better education and access to health services. The other two were making cities more livable by disallowing smoking in public places and supporting road safety through child-seat safety measures and strengthening governance and institutional capacity of the National Institute of Education.
