COP 15: Senegal, Burkina Faso reveal success stories during discussion on the economic benefits of sustainable land management

Scaling up sustainable land management and ecosystem restoration have definite economic benefits for African countries, according to experts who took part in a panel discussion as part of the fifteenth Conference of the Parties (COP15) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. The panel was moderated by the African Development Bank.

The African Development Bank appoints Dr. Daniel Alexander Schroth as Director Of the Renewable Energy And Energy Efficiency Department

The African Development Bank is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Daniel Alexander Schroth as Director of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Department, effective 16 May 2022.
Prior to his appointment, Schroth, a German citizen, served as Acting Director.

Africa’s leading financial institution will avert looming food crisis

The African Development Bank Group’s Board of Directors has approved a $1.5 billion Emergency Food Production Facility to help tackle the global food crisis sparked by the Russian-Ukraine conflict.
The funds will help 20 million African farmers produce an extra 38 million metric tons of food to address growing fears of starvation and food insecurity on the continent.
The Bank, which is Africa’s only AAA-rated financial institution, has consistently maintained this credit rating by all major global credit rating agencies.

COP 15: In Senegal, the women-led Ndoloum Vert project is fighting desertification one tree – and one baby – at a time

Women and their central role in fighting climate change and sustainable land management was the focus of a special session during the 15th summit of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) which closed Friday in the Ivorian commercial capital.

Good morning to you all.
 
I wish to welcome you to the Annual Meetings for 2022 of the African Development Bank Group.
I am so pleased that we all can meet physically, after the 2 years plus of Covid-19 that has prevented us from having physical annual meetings.
I am delighted that you, the press, are here in such large numbers from all over the world. We thank you for coming to hear of our work, the challenges facing Africa, and how the African Development Bank is responding to these challenges.

Cambodia: Greater Mekong Subregion: Rehabilitation of the Railway in Cambodia Project

The project aimed to restore Cambodia's railway infrastructure by rehabilitating or reconstructing its existing track and reestablishing the rail connection with Thailand. It was also expected to pave the way for the proposed construction of a new railway line between Phnom Penh and Ho Chi Minh City. The project's expected impact was increase in domestic and regional trade movement via the railway and a sustainable railway system. The intended outcome was a sustainable and efficiently operated railway.

Thailand: Strengthening Specialized and Semi-Formal Financial Institutions to Support Financial Inclusion

The technical assistance (TA) aimed to support the growth of the financial sector in Thailand through inclusive finance. The expected impact was improved inclusive finance for low-income households while the expected outcome was improved efficiency of specialized and semiformal financial institutions in providing inclusive finance.
This report validates the completion report's assessment of the TA.

Timor-Leste: Capacity for Regional Economic Integration

The technical assistance (TA) aimed to support Timor-Leste in its effort to become a full member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The expected outcome was an improvement in Timor-Leste’s capacity to meet ASEAN’s requirements and to become a full and active ASEAN member.
This report validates the completion report's assessment of the TA.

Supporting the Cities Development Initiative for Asia

The objective of the technical assistance (TA) was to channel development partner funds to support the implementation of the Cities Development Initiative for Asia (CDIA) Strategy and Business Plan, 2013–2017. The TA aimed to enable the expansion of support to secondary cities for urban infrastructure development focusing on pro-poor and environmentally sustainable projects.
