Papua New Guinea: Road Maintenance and Upgrading (Sector) Project (Validation Report)

Published by: Independent Evaluation Department, Asian Development Bank
SDGs: SDG 8 - Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 9 - Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

The Medium Term Development Strategy, 1997–2002 of Papua New Guinea (PNG) was the principal policy guideline for the government's economic and social development. It was aimed at creating an environment that enabled the local population to make better use of their land, labor, and natural resources through provision of infrastructure, health and education, and opportunities for income generation. The government's transport objectives in the region were to connect widely scattered population pockets to facilitate the marketing of agricultural produce and the export of crops. The government also aimed to deliver efficiently its public health, education, and agricultural extension services.

This report validates the completion report's assessment of the project. IED overall assessment: Less than successful.
