Today, the AfDB joins the global community to commemorate World Food Day. This year's theme is "Social Protection and Agriculture: breaking the cycle of rural poverty.” Africa has 65% of all the arable left in the world to meet the food needs of 9 billion people on the planet by 2050. Yet, Africa imports $35 billion worth of food annually. Africa's food needs are set to double by 2050. How can Africa feed itself and the world?

Aujourd'hui, la BAD se joint à la communauté internationale pour commémorer la Journée mondiale de l'alimentation. Cette année, la thématique en est « Protection sociale et agriculture : Briser le cycle de la pauvreté rurale ». L'Afrique recèle 65 % de toutes les terres arables disponibles dans le monde pour répondre aux besoins alimentaires des 9 milliards de personnes que comptera la planète d'ici à 2050. Pourtant, l'Afrique importe 35 milliards $ de denrées alimentaires chaque année. Et les besoins alimentaires du continent devraient doubler d'ici à 2050. Comment l'Afrique peut-elle se nourrir et nourrir le reste du monde ?
