African Development Bank to triple Annual Climate Financing to nearly $5 billion by 2020

AfDB President Akinwumi Adesina announced on Friday, October 9 that the Bank would nearly triple its annual climate financing to reach $5 billion a year by 2020. AfDB's climate spending will increase to 40% of its total new investments by 2020. "Climate change is both an urgent threat and a unique opportunity,” Adesina said. "The Bank is significantly stepping up its support for African countries, not only to meet that threat but also to seize the opportunity to drive low-carbon, climate-resilient growth.”

Lutte contre le changement climatique : la BAD va tripler ses financements et les porter à près de 5 milliards $/ an d'ici à 2020

Ce 9 octobre, le président de la BAD a annoncé que la Banque entend quasi tripler les fonds qu'elle alloue chaque année à la lutte contre le changement climatique : d'ici à 2020, elle y investira 5 milliards de dollars EU par an, soit 40 % de ses nouveaux investissements à cet horizon. « Le changement climatique est à la fois une menace qu'il nous faut traiter d'urgence et une opportunité sans précédent », a déclaré Akinwumi Adesina, qui entend « encourager une croissance sobre en carbone et résiliente au changement climatique ».
