Climate change is a global phenomenon, but its effects are every bit local, affecting people especially in coastal and low lying areas like Kerala. Three factors augment the threat of climate related disasters: people's exposure to hazards, their vulnerability to these events and the intensity of the disasters themselves. All three factors should be of concern to Kerala, Chennai, Maharashtra, West Bengal and others, where people are highly exposed because of high population density and frequent climate change related floods and storms.
